Those Who Chant is my arrangement of a composition by Walter Bishop, Jr. Like the left hand of the accordion, which is arranged in the circle of fourths and fifths, the piece takes the circle of fourths and puts it all into one octave into an ostinato (a short motive that repeats throughout). I first arranged this piece with a bass clarinet playing the ostinato, but later realized that my first impulse, the accordion- was a more interesting one considering the fact that to play it one just has to travel down the bass side of the accordion (but it’s harder than it seems!).
